  • WINTER WEATHER UPDATE 1/19/22: UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES WEDNESDAY DELAYED OPENING

Clemson University Upstate locations including main campus, CU-ICAR, GreenvilleONE, CUBEInC in Patewood, the Center for Human Genetics in Greenwood, the Innovation Campus and Technology Park in Anderson and Clemson University School of Nursing at Prisma Health will open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19 due to hazardous conditions caused by winter weather.

Caution is urged due to likely overnight freezing of local roadways and sidewalks. Forecasts expect temperatures to drop below freezing this evening causing pockets of slick surfaces. While nearly all campus roadways are clear, some snow runoff in shady areas may cause hazardous conditions on surrounding roadways and walking paths.

All other statewide locations should follow the same winter weather hazard decisions made by the county government where their office is located. A full list of delays and closings can be found on the South Carolina Emergency Management Division website.

If a student cannot make it to a scheduled class on Wednesday, they should contact their instructor directly.

If an employee cannot report to work on Wednesday, they should consult with their supervisor, and supervisors are asked to provide flexibility for faculty and staff who may have issues accessing campus due to hazardous roadways. Employees can work remotely if their job permits, take leave, or make up their missed work time. All missed work time must be made up by Jan. 31, 2022.

    COVID-19 TESTING
Main campus COVID-19 testing will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

  • CU SAFE ALERT: Suspicious Activity Resolved

CU SAFE ALERT: With the help of quick response from the Clemson community, CUPD has identified the person of interest in the previous suspicious activity notice. There is no threat to campus in relation to this incident; the behavior was a result of social media prank. CUPD is thankful for the community members who came forward to help provide information concerning this incident.

  • CUPD: Suspicious Activity Reports in Residence Halls

Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) received several suspicious activity reports Thursday evening regarding the individual pictured below.

Reports indicate he contacted several female students in their residence halls. Upon contact with the resident, the individual would offer a handwritten note with odd messaging or begin a verbal conversation. While the messages did not communicate any threats, the odd content was concerning to residents, and CUPD is taking these concerns seriously. Officers are actively investigating this matter, conducting increased patrols in residential spaces and following several leads to identify the individual so additional inquiry can occur.

CUPD is asking for assistance from the campus population. If you see or encounter this individual on campus, please call CUPD at 864-656-2222, so an officer can be immediately dispatched. If you recognize the individual or vehicle he was last seen entering, please contact CUPD and ask to speak with the on-duty supervisor.

  • CUPD: Attempted Sexual Assault/Fondling Investigation

The Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) is investigating a reported attempted sexual assault involving the offense of fondling that occurred on Thursday, October 14 at approximately 1 a.m. in the R-3 Parking lot on Perimeter Road. The incident was first reported to CUPD late Thursday evening.

In response to this incident, CUPD has increased uniformed patrols in and around the parking areas and conducted area canvasses to identify any potential suspects. CUPD detectives are actively reviewing all available video footage from the surrounding area, coordinating with local law enforcement partners and interviewing all potential witnesses.

CUPD is asking anyone with additional information or who observed suspicious activity in or around this area on Oct. 14 to please contact the department at 864-656-2222.

CUPD would like to remind the campus community of the following safety tips:

o   If you see something, do something. When a threat may be present, active bystanders should intervene if a person is in need of medical assistance, mental health counseling or any other form of assistance. It is important to intervene early before a situation escalates. To keep a safe and healthy culture on campus, everyone must do their part to intervene as active bystanders.

o   There are many resources on campus, but you play an important role to help your friends get to resources.

    o   Bystander skills include:
    – Noticing an occurrence out of the ordinary.
    – Deciding in your “gut” if something is amiss or unacceptable.
    – Asking yourself, “Could I play a role here?”
    – Assessing your options for giving help.
    – Determining the potential risks of taking action.
    – Deciding whether to act – now or later.

    • If you are the survivor of an assault:

o   Try to stay calm and remain alert. Look for situations that you can exploit to your advantage.

o   If able, note the characteristics of your assailant and identify a means of escape. Information you recall about your attacker is invaluable to the police in trying to apprehend the criminal.

o   Call 911 or, if you are on campus, notify CUPD at 864-656-2222 and seek medical care as soon as possible.

If you have been sexually or physically assaulted, there are on- and off-campus resources ready to help you. If you are not ready to report to police or to the University through the Title IX Office, visit with a confidential advocate or counselor by contacting Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at 864-656-2451. Visit the CAPS appointments webpage at https://www.clemson.edu/campus-life/student-health/appointments.html to see how to schedule a medical appointment or access CAPS. Counselors are on-call after hours as well. Please remember survivors are never responsible for the behavior of offenders.
