    WEATHER INFORMATION

Hurricane Helene is expected to bring heavy rainfall, high wind gusts, flash flooding and possible tornadoes to the area with the most severe weather expected Thursday night through midday Friday. Main campus and Upstate locations are expected to receive 8-10 inches of rainfall and wind gusts of 50-60 m.p.h., with some isolated areas seeing hurricane force gusts. A Tropical Storm Warning and a Flood Watch are in effect for the Clemson area.

Stay weather aware, continue to monitor local media, have multiple ways to get alerts (especially at night) and understand watches and warnings – including CU Alerts. Continue to monitor local weather forecasts and stay informed about the developments of the storm. Tornadoes can spawn during a hurricane so know what to do if you receive a tornado warning. If you encounter flooded roadways, turn around, don’t drown. Avoid drowned trees or power lines.

  • ONS siren test scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 29; No public action needed

The outdoor warning sirens around Oconee Nuclear Station will be tested multiple times on Thursday, Aug. 29, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. No public action is needed.

This required testing is necessary to ensure sirens are operating optimally after maintenance activities were initiated earlier this week.

During this time, some sirens will be individually tested in short, audible 30-second increments. To ensure they are functioning properly, it may be necessary to test some sirens more than once.

Although a siren might sound multiple times, this is part of the testing. Because these are tests, local broadcasting stations will not interrupt regular programming to broadcast Emergency Alert System(EAS) messages.

For more information about nuclear emergency preparedness and outdoor warning sirens, residents can visit duke-energy.com/NuclearEP.
