  • COVID-19 update for 03/02/20

There remain no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Clemson University at this time, and University officials continue to closely monitor Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and are actively engaged in daily planning in an effort to inform and protect faculty, staff, students and visitors from the virus.

Earlier today, more than 150 Clemson academic and administrative department leaders met to discuss planning and preparation for future actions that may be required as the COVID-19 virus continues to spread. Provost Bob Jones, Executive Vice President Tony Wagner and Associate Vice President for Public Safety Greg Mullen updated the leadership on university policies and procedures and sought feedback on specific areas of focus for the main campus and Clemson’s facilities across the state.

It is important to note that the University is currently in a planning phase and no decisions related to the future operations of our U.S. campuses have been made. The goal of this session was to provide the latest information and to help academic and administrative departments prepare for the full range of possibilities related to the further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Also today, after considering official guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the university has decided to end all study abroad programs currently underway. We are encouraging, and helping to facilitate, the immediate return to the United States of all Clemson students and faculty located outside of the country.

This information is being conveyed to each of the 385 individuals currently located overseas, and further information is being provided to assist them on their transition back. We have identified a number of knowledgeable education abroad staff in each of our colleges and the Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad, and one will be assigned to work individually with each of our students returning back to the United States.

Additionally, the University has initiated a high-risk travel protocol to govern University-related travel. Effective immediately, all University-related international travel has been suspended, except in rare instances, which must be approved pursuant to the University’s High-Risk Travel Policy.

COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving and expanding situation, and we will provide consistent and regular messaging to our campus community as warranted. Please know that personnel from around the University are fully engaged in this work with the sole goal of doing everything possible to promote the safety and wellbeing of our students and employees.

The University has compiled relevant information about coronavirus and helpful resource links at https://www.clemson.edu/covid-19.html, which will be updated regularly. We will continue to provide updates through social media (@OurClemson, @ClemsonSafety), Clemson.edu and via email as the situation warrants.

  • Clemson remains free of COVID-19 cases; University actively monitoring, planning in preparation for responding as virus continues to spread

There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Clemson University at this time, but University officials continue to closely monitor Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and are actively engaged in daily planning in an effort to inform and protect faculty, staff, students and visitors from the virus.

COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving and expanding situation. The U.S. State Department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are issuing frequent travel advisories, including locations Clemson students are from, currently are in or have plans to travel to. Anyone planning travel should visit the CDC and Department of State websites for more information related to the latest advisories.

The Division of Academic Affairs, Office of Global Engagement and staff members in our colleges have been in close contact with our students studying abroad and the university stands ready to take any necessary actions to ensure the health of our students studying outside of the United States.

In addition to the daily planning work that has been underway in recent weeks, Provost Bob Jones and Executive Vice President Tony Wagner are convening an informational and preparedness planning session Monday, March 2, for academic and administrative department leaders. Further communications will follow from that meeting, and as events warrant.
