Local auto thefts prompt Clemson University police warning

Recent auto thefts in the Clemson area are prompting the Clemson University Police Department to ask that you help deter thefts by making sure you lock your vehicle and report suspicious activity to police by calling 911.

Police offer these safety tips to protect your property:

  • Lock your vehicle.
  • Don’t leave the keys in your vehicle.
  • Keep track of your keys.
  • Don’t leave your car running.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside the vehicle.
  • Don’t leave a spare key near your vehicle.
  • Make sure the windows are up.
  • Park in well-lit areas.
  • Install an audible alarm system and anti-theft device.
  • Install a tracking system.
